Moneyline Bets Explained
A straight-up bet on which team wins, with no point spread. The simplest bet in sports; and the foundational market every other bet type builds from.
How It Works
- You pick a team to win the game outright
- Odds are quoted in American format: favorites with a minus (-150) and underdogs with a plus (+130)
- A -150 favorite means you risk $150 to win $100 in profit; a +130 underdog means you risk $100 to win $130 in profit
- Push (tie) only possible in sports that allow ties (e.g., soccer 3-way markets handle ties as their own option)
Florida Example
Miami Heat vs. Boston Celtics, Heat moneyline +175
You bet $50 on the Heat to win outright as +175 underdogs. If the Heat win, you collect $87.50 in profit. If the Celtics win, you lose the $50 stake. No spread to worry about; only who wins.
